This is to thank Dave Smith at Fixtronix for sorting out the best logistics of getting my beloved Tascam FW1884 mixing desk fixed and thus negating any profit for himself.  It's pretty rare (and rightly so) that a professional divulges his knowledge for free, but when it does happen I like to think that karma does her job.

You have a good reputation Dave, having been recommended by Paul Brewer at Boards.ie. And deservedly so.

The Eclectic Meme Conspiracy

Friday, 30 April 2010 12:37

game-screenshot-001This is a beta of a new game and game engine being developed by Joomla Ireland and EMC23. It's based on a mafia browser game but will be expanded into a multilevel post-modern hyper universe with a heavy emphasis on creativity. The stories were written by myself and friends over the past ten years and will be starting points for various missions and will include greater depth on the characters you will meet in the game.

If you are interested in game design, interface and graphic design, audio, or scriptwriting, and wish to participate in this project then email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

You can test the game here

Steinski in Galway April 16th

Monday, 22 March 2010 14:49

Steinski is quite simply the godfather of cut n paste. He's also got an encyclopedic knowledge of music and presents a show on WFMU. (a link in my favourites). I'm guessing not only is he a huge influence on everything I do, but on all the djs I listen to. From Coldcut, to Dj Shadow, this guy is owed a huge debt. He played 903 last year and it rocked. And now he's using an APC 40! Wicked.

Taken from Steinski's site.. www.Steinski.com

April 11 – 17 I’ll be playing assorted dates in Ireland; Dublin, Galway, perhaps Cork. Keep an eye on the ChoiceCuts website for more definite info as the dates near.

Live Internet Radio Rig : Techbot and Left 23

Live Internet Radio Set-up

With the minimixes in full swing, and proving popular enough, we are now turning our attention to live internet performance and collaboration.

We'd be interested in meeting up with programmers, interface designers, and visual script writers from Galway over the coming months, to see what kind of project we could create with internet streaming in mind.

This is our most permanent set-up to date. It took a few months of experimenting with combinations and configurations.

What I've essential got hooked up are:

  • 2 laptops (Mother and Mildred)
  • the APC 40
  • a Fatboy controller
  • a M-audio Black Box (adds amp to any of the synths inputs)
  • a JP 8000 (doubles as a midi controller for any virtual synth)
  • a Novation Bass Station
  • a Korg Prophecy
  • a mini Korg 700 (I bought from the analog synth meister - Mal Meehan. Mal has just finished a DVD documenting JJ Perry, the legendary French synth guru).

Gone are the 2 Korgs (they both need repairs), the FW 1884, Hal the Desktop, the equalizers, the drum machines, and the Carnival Sound module.

Facebook Studio Photo Gallery

Dj Techbot's Galway Studio and DogsThis is my collection of photos going over the years. I've a few more I need to scan and upload. Some are back when I had a studio in Dublin, but most are of my last place in Galway. You can tell the difference because the equipment moves from being recording based, to DJ-centric. And of course there's the dogs.

Although I've had ableton Live 5 for over a year now, it's only in the past few weeks that I've been totally converted from my older sequencers.
I'm gonna collect a set of Ableton related links and post em here......

CcMixter

Saturday, 25 July 2009 16:57

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

www.ccMixter.org is a community music site that promotes remix culture and makes samples, remixes, and a cappella tracks licensed under Creative Commons available for download and re-use in creative works. Visitors are able to listen to, sample, mash-up, or interact with music in a variety of ways including the download and use of tracks and samples in their own remixes. Most sampling or mash-up web sites on the Internet stipulate that users forgo their rights to the new song once it is created. By contrast, the material on ccMixter.org is generally licensed to be used in any arena, not just the ccMixter site or a specific contest. The ccMixter site contains thousands of samples from a wide range of recording artists, including high profile artists such as Beastie Boys and David Byrne (musician).

Some ccMixter sound files might have certain restrictions, depending on their specific licenses. Each submission is marked clearly with the license that applies to it.

APC 40

Wednesday, 28 January 2009 14:19

My APC40 arrived today. And tbh it's pretty much the most satisfying piece of kit I've had the pleasure of owning , as I knew it would be.
