My korg polysix finally arrived yesterday!!!

Oblong26 the ebay seller packed the vintage synth in bubble wrap and brown paper, no cardboard box. This guy is an absolute disaster. Of course it's partly my fault. I should have done more research on him. He has a zero positive rating for sales, seems I was not the only person infuriated by his total lack of professionalism.

11 days it took for him just to confirm the P&P.

Needless to say the synth is NOT in near mint condition as he had advertised. Even a superficial glance shows damage

1) one of the side panels, fixed with sellotape!!!!!

2) The tape to tape/ bank A light remains on regardless of funtion chosen.

3) The volume knob is scratchy and needs replacing

4) But worst of all one of the six voices doesn't work!!!!!!! What a sham.

 It will take me a few weeks before I dare take a soldering iron to this beast.

He also discussed midi sounds available on the net.  THIS KORG IS NOT FITTED WITH A MIDI RETROFIT!!! What was he thinking!!!!

Please contact me with any questions/photos etc. The poly six takes about 1 min to warm up after its turned on, the lfo swirls a bit for about a min then its absolutely fine.

The Polysix have SSM chips for its filters and envelopes, and some say this explains its warm sound. It also has a special self-tuning function. In unison mode the six voices are adjusted a little bit out of tune from each other, giving you a real fat monophonic lead sound.

Both the Polysix and the Mono/Poly share the effect section and arpeggiator. The latter can go up or down or both. It has a speed of 0,2 up to 20 Hz. Useful for really fast runs. They also share the Korg tape input, for saving or loading banks of new sound, midi patches of all sorts of crazy poly six 80s sounds are available on the net for it.

The keyboard riff for Europe's 1986 song "The Final Countdown" was composed on a Korg Polysix around 1982.

hey rob - no the battery is absolutely fine - i bought it from a place in london off net about 2 years ago, chap there was a super 'bod' into all his servicing - whilst i never asked about the battery - since seen reports on net of that prob - i never had a prob - will advise you one thing to do - i used yahoo groups - joined the polysix forum where they have good patches for it - the sounds i've made are blips and blobs whereas on there they have pro made ones - k not sent yet as need to get it weighed - it takes ages to pack up this stuff !! do it all in a day ? er no ! k hope you enjoy it! any quest fire away, thanks justin

Do you actually have a price for me to finish the paypal transaction? Do you know when the van will be collecting the synth? I'm sure you appreciate that this is becoming very frustrating and certainly not the norm. All this before P&P is confirmed nevermind actual delivery.

Hey - also do what i did which was to get the patches off a yahoo group called korg poly six - its got all the presets and other sounds others have made - i'm so rubbish at making sounds it saved me a lot of time !! depends but with anolog synths i found it very hard to know how to turn a blip sound into a string sound - saved me a lot of time ! easy to do - follow steps once you've joined the yahoo group. hope you enjoy ! thanks justin.

I've joined the polysix group tho' I prefer the hands-on approach. I've got 3 other korgs, 2 of which don't have a preset function. Well actually one does, but I removed the batteries. :)
Looking forward to tweaking.

ok, cool ! but i'm telling you it makes blips and blobs and what not, and to make the strings and the really cool presets someones already done it, saved me time and i thought they were great, the sounds on there now are my blips and blobs and not pro ones like the ones you download, anyway enjoy the learning curve if you choose to !! thanks justin.
