I've spent a few days travelling around galway city with a small tape recorder, Shop street is especially cool for finding sounds. I'm hoping touse these samples on a small homemade 8 bit sampler that I'm currently designing and building.
I built my first synth using SynthmakerCM . This program allows you to build complex VST instruments and effects from a set of components and modules.

I intend to build the same synth using Synthedit and PureData. Then later maybe in Reaktor and Max/MSP depending on how far I go with this.
It's a standard dual oscillator subtractive with delay presented as a tutorial and default opening file. Later Lisa might make a customised GUI for it. I'll also add some effects etc later.
Thats the virtual side of things. A genuine analog hardware synth will take a bit longer. I bought a kids electronic kid (recommend age 8-12 years

) and have done a bit of messing around with it. It cost 30 euro in Maplins but can be bought online for a fraction of that.
I also bought a tiny function generator kit in Maplins for 21 Euro. I haven't assembled it yet. I want to buy a decent soldering iron and some more kit before I begin.
I intend to spend about 10 euro a week on components and tools until I have enough to begin a project. Meanwhile I've been checking out the numerous links to SynthDIY or SDIY.
